SEMI – REALISTIC

Amit Bhar, born in 1973 in Hooghly Chinsurah, West Bengal, discovered his passion for art at a young age, with a particular fascination for the rustic beauty of rural Bengal. The picturesque surroundings, from clear blue skies to fallen autumn leaves, inspired him to take up painting as a primary objective in his life. His school notebooks were often adorned with sketches and paintings, reflecting his deep connection with art from an early stage.

During his studies at the Calcutta Government Art College, Bhar was fortunate to receive guidance from Shri Paresh Das, a renowned artist and gold medalist. This mentorship, along with the influence of artists like Subal Jana and Niloy Ghosh, helped shape his artistic style. Additionally, the works of Bikash Bhattacharya and Suhas Roy left a significant impact on him during his formative years, further contributing to his artistic development.

Amit Bhar’s artistic journey led him to develop a unique style that he describes as a “new semi-realistic technique of texturing with the realistic play of light and shade.” This technique allows him to capture intricate details and textures while maintaining a realistic portrayal of subjects. His black and white pieces often feature strong figurative elements, intricately shaded with careful strokes to create complex patterns.

His oil paintings, characterized by vivid hues and meticulous attention to lighting, exemplify his distinctive style. His works often bridge the gap between realism and stylization, occasionally venturing into the realm of abstraction. His series centered around Buddha draws inspiration from Ajanta paintings and Gandhara sculptures, resulting in a reinterpretation of traditional imagery through his innovative approach.

Amit Bhar’s artistic repertoire also includes a Rajasthan series, where he skillfully captures the lively spirit of the region with its musicians and puppets. Through these works, he brings to life the colorful folklore and cultural vibrancy of Rajasthan against a sandy backdrop.

Throughout his career, Bhar’s artistic exploration has revolved around the interplay between illusion and reality, blurring the lines between waking and dreaming. His paintings, often resembling photographs due to their detailed realism, capture a wide range of subjects, from the serene beauty of the Ganga Ghats in Banaras to evocative portraits of women draped in white sarees. His art has earned him recognition not only within India but also on the international stage, with exhibitions in various countries such as the USA, UK, Canada, Italy, Spain, Singapore, and more.

In addition to his artistic accomplishments, Amit Bhar has taken on the role of Vice President of UNIVART & IAA/AIAP – INDIA, an official partner of UNESCO, reflecting his commitment to promoting art and culture. His journey from a young enthusiast in rural Bengal to a prominent figure in the art world showcases his dedication, talent, and unique approach to capturing the beauty and essence of his surroundings on canvas.
