ABOUT YAAMA NERURKAR

“Art is not what you see, but what you make others see”
~Edgar Degas

In 1997, Yaama graduated from sir J.J. school of Art in the faculty of Interior design. Though she enjoyed the work of Interior designing, she had that restless feeling of missing the thrill of painting. Being so occupied in her designing work, she had hardly any spare time to devote to painting. However, one day she decided to make time for painting regardless of her preoccupation with her interior designing and when she sat in front of the canvas with a paint-brush in her hand she realized that painting was a big and a very important part of her life! And then there was no looking back.

She held her first art exhibition a few years ago with little hope that her paintings would sell as she had no past experience of exhibiting her own paintings. Other than that she was also not a very known artist too. But, to her surprise, at her very first exhibition, she may claim — her paintings were not only appreciated but more than half of them sold out. With this stimulus any artist would have had a newfound confidence, inspiration and enthusiasm to display his/her talent. This was followed by her several exhibitions and it pleased her to find that the outcome was always fruitful. Then befell the ominous period of  lockdown and though there were many disadvantages of it, one advantage for her was that she could paint a lot and post it on social media where she received a considerable response. She was determined to take the efforts required for her art to progress as near to maturity as it was possible and reach the art-connoisseurs and the admirers of her work through social media.

For her, Art is transforming any subject into visual poetic language. The phenomenon of piles of papers and pints of colors used for these experiments is nothing but sheer joy and satisfaction to her. For her, the process of achieving visual results is like the serene effect of melodious music.

Her aim is to achieve harmony and balance in composition, tonal values and color compositions that will evolve into a  visual relation between the viewer and the painting. Though she loves and respects all media of colors, she irresistibly keeps going back to watercolor paintings as she cannot resist the temptation of watching and experiencing the vibrant flowing colors blend into each other as she releases them on paper.

She is a realistic and passionate artist in the progressing world of modern abstract art. Her subjects are landscapes, cityscapes, seascapes, still life, portraits and spiritual figures. With a swish and a flick of her paintbrush she is always willing to take up a new challenge and paint the canvas with a plethora of colors.
