  • S K Nur Ali

Nur Ali’s artistic language is deeply inspired by Bengal’s flora and fauna. His paintings beautifully reflect this signature style — radiant lotus blooms, layered waterlilies, delicate birds in motion, leafless village trees, grazing animals, and dreamlike rural horizons. His compositions are not merely decorative; they evoke a sense of seasonal transition, memory, and the quiet harmony between life and nature. His use of bold colours, geometric floral arrangements, and symbolic birds and animals creates an almost surreal world where nature becomes both subject and metaphor.

ABOUT S K NUR ALI
Love for Nature

Born in 1974 and deeply rooted in the serene landscapes of rural Bengal, SK Nur Ali is a contemporary Indian artist celebrated for his vibrant nature-inspired paintings, rich storytelling, and poetic visual language. Growing up amidst village ponds, flowering lotuses, domestic animals, birds, and open fields, he developed an intimate relationship with nature that continues to define his artistic practice.

He pursued his Diploma in Visual Arts from the Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata (1996–1999), where he refined his technical skills while preserving the innocence and lyrical beauty of his rural memories. Soon after, his works began gaining recognition for their distinctive floral compositions, birds, village motifs, and symbolic animal forms, all rendered in a richly coloured and highly decorative style.

From 2001 onwards, Nur Ali began exhibiting extensively through solo exhibitions in Kolkata, particularly at the Academy of Fine Arts, gradually establishing himself as a recognised name in contemporary Indian art. Over the years, his solo shows expanded to prestigious venues such as Taj Bengal, Kolkata, and later to Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai (2019), reflecting the growing appreciation of his work among collectors and art enthusiasts across India.

His participation in important group exhibitions at Birla Academy of Art & Culture, Srijani Arts Gallery, Harshada Art Gallery Goa, and Galerie La-mere Kolkata further strengthened his artistic journey. Alongside this, he remained an active participant in Annual All India Fine Art Exhibitions, State Lalit Kala Academy shows, and Indian Society of Oriental Art exhibitions, building a strong exhibition history over two decades.

The circular floral arrangement seen in the works suggests a universe within nature itself — a blooming inner world surrounded by stark trees, village silhouettes, and open skies. This contrast creates a compelling narrative of renewal, hope, and life emerging from stillness, making his paintings visually striking and emotionally resonant.

His achievements include the Certificate of Merit from the Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata (1998), followed by prestigious Scholarships from Charukala Parishad, Government of West Bengal (2003 & 2004).

Today, SK Nur Ali’s paintings are admired for their colourful rural narratives, lotus pond scenes, village animals, birds, and symbolic landscapes, making them highly sought-after by collectors looking for Indian contemporary nature art, Bengal-inspired paintings, floral artworks, and wildlife compositions.

His work remains a celebration of rural Bengal’s timeless beauty, transforming everyday nature into luminous visual poetry.
