ABOUT MONICA GHULE
Mother Series
Monica Ghule is a Mumbai-born artist whose paintings tenderly bridge the world of memory and imagination. Currently based in Badlapur, she transforms personal recollections into vivid, dreamlike canvases that capture the innocence, warmth, and wonder of childhood.
Monica’s journey in art began with formal training at reputed institutions in Maharashtra, earning her Government Diploma in Art, Diploma in Art Education, and later, a Master of Fine Art (M.F.A.) from Nagpur University in 2013, where she graduated first in class. During her academic years, she was honoured with several awards recognizing her artistic excellence.
Since 2008, Monica has participated in numerous group exhibitions across India, steadily building her presence in the contemporary art scene. Her growing recognition culminated in her solo debut at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai in 2022, followed by solo showcases at VESVAR Art Gallery, Pune, and Mumbai Art Fair in 2023. She has also presented her works at major platforms including the India Art Festival (IAF) in Mumbai, Delhi, and Bangalore. Internationally, her art was featured at The Artdom Project, Grand Hotel, Oslo in 2023.
Monica’s work has also been part of several prestigious group exhibitions at renowned venues such as Cymroza Art Gallery (Mumbai), Art Houz (Bangalore and Chennai), Art2Day (Pune), Zeoline Art Gallery (Kolkata), and Artistiq Art Gallery (Delhi) among others. Her artistry was further recognised with the Bendre-Hussain Scholarship from the Bombay Art Society in 2023—one of the most respected honours in the Indian art fraternity.
At the heart of Monica Ghule’s artistic expression lies nostalgia. Her paintings, created in acrylic on canvas, often revolve around scenes of childhood—children swinging from trees, laughing with friends, or simply lost in carefree moments. Through meticulous detail and whimsical symbolism—leaves, butterflies, paper planes, and birds—she conjures a visual poetry that feels both intimate and universal.
Her works are deeply autobiographical. Having grown up without a sister, Monica often imagines the bond she might have shared, translating that longing into tender portrayals of sisterhood and togetherness. Themes of family, friendship, and belonging run through her oeuvre, forming a heartfelt dialogue between memory and imagination. “I paint my childhood memories,” she says. “In the absence of the kinship of sisterhood, I imagine how it would have been. My longing for her comes through my paintings.”
Monica’s art invites the viewer to step back into the pure joy of youth—to recall the “wow” moments that define the early chapters of life. Her canvases shimmer with warmth, emotion, and quiet magic, reminding us of a time unburdened by the complexities of adulthood.
With a growing list of exhibitions, accolades, and admirers, Monica Ghule stands among the most promising voices in contemporary Indian art—an artist who paints not just what she sees, but what she feels, transforming simple memories into timeless expressions of love and nostalgia.
