The mystic beauty

Govind Dumbre’s art is influenced and inspired by beautiful cityscapes and skylines. His other big muse is the sacred city of Benaras and its atmospheric Ghats. The mystical beauty of the holy river and the throng of humanity on its banks come alive in Dumbre’s atmospheric works. Nothing escapes his keen eye – the multitude of bathers and pilgrims, the boatmen, the colorful sadhus, children and the rituals and pageantry all come to life in his paintings. But Dumbre’s intention is not documentation. Instead, he creates a meditative setting that draws you into a state of contemplation. In his works, Benaras emerges like a beautiful mirage. A world of mystical shadow and light with a silvery mist enveloping the setting. The paintings pierce the veil between the mundane and the spiritual, the illusory and the real.
